Renewable energy solutions provider SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) Group celebrated Earth Day 2022 with simultaneous clean-up drives and a virtual learning session on April 27. This year’s clean-up drives were joined by 136 volunteers composed of SNAP employees, contractors, Bridging Gaps in Higher Education through Tertiary Scholarships (BRIGHTS) scholars, community residents, Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPO), and contractual workers of Magat, Ambuklao, and Binga hydroelectric power plant (HEPP) facilities. The Philippine National Police (PNP) also participated in the clean-up effort in Benguet. The Magat HEPP compound, dam crest, eco-park, dam fish landing, and Baligatan dyke crest road were all covered by Magat volunteers. In Benguet volunteers cleaned areas around the Binga HEPP compound and a section of the Agno River in Tobob, Benguet. The joint clean-up drives collected approximately 700 kilograms of mixed waste, which were then segregated and hauled for disposal by its local government unit sanitary landfill partner.

In support of the government’s effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 in social gatherings, 44 BRIGHTS scholars took the responsibility of cleaning their respective surroundings, dubbed “Tapat ko, Linis ko.” Capping this year’s observance of World Earth Day, SNAP also held a virtual learning session on “Building a Positive Safety and Health Culture” for employees. SNAP Group holds clean-up drives each year to commemorate Earth Day with volunteers from the company and the communities. This year’s activities were the first community and environmental initiative to be held with community members since COVID-19 struck in 2020.
