CAPTION: (L-R) Xavier School President Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ, Ph.D. and SNAP Group President and CEO Joseph Yu led the ceremonial signing and switching on of the partnership for a sustainable future.
Renewable energy solutions provider SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) sealed a Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) contract with Xavier School on August 23, 2022.
Xavier School, a Jesuit college-preparatory school in San Juan, Metro Manila, is SNAP’s first academic institution GEOP customer. The green energy switch will commence on August 26, 2022.
Present during the signing ceremony were SNAP Group President and CEO Joseph Yu, SNAP-RES CEO Senen Fenomeno, Xavier School President Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ, Ph.D., and Xavier School Principals Jane Cacacho and Theresa Nebres-Ladrido.
GEOP is a program under the Department of Energy (DOE) which allows electricity end-users with an average peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts (kW) in the previous 12 months to switch to renewable energy (RE) sources and choose their own RE supplier.
SNAP fully supports the country’s demand for RE growth. “We are very excited about this partnership with Xavier School. By going through GEOP and choosing SNAP’s renewable and responsible energy, Xavier is playing a vital role in helping the Philippines realize its sustainable energy goals,” said Yu.
Likewise, Xavier School and the worldwide Jesuit community are committed to caring for the planet. In particular, they support moving away from the use of fossil fuels. “By implementing forward-looking sustainable practices, this shift to hydroelectric power through SNAP’s GEOP, renewable energy will now power 40% of Xavier School’s electricity needs. This continues our efforts to promote a greener lifestyle,” Fr. Dy said.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, in a message sent by his office, commended Xavier School’s efforts to switch to a clean and renewable source of energy, which supports the city government’s call for sustainability and environmental protection.
“We believe that all possible steps must be taken to safeguard our environment. Congratulations to Xavier School. May you continue to lead the education sector in such noteworthy endeavors and we look forward to working with you in providing quality education through sustainable means to our future generations,” Zamora said.
“We are putting sustainability at the core of everything we undertake, and GEOP is an important vehicle for our mission of powering a sustainable future,” Yu added.
