Wetlands are vital ecosystems that protect and support life on the planet. SN Aboitiz Power-Magat (SNAP-Magat) joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in raising awareness about the importance of wetlands for our planet and for people. About 70 volunteers from SNAP-Magat, local government units (LGU) of Ramon, Isabela, National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS), Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) San Isidro, Isabela, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Ramon, Isabela, and student volunteers teamed up with the DENR for a tree planting and clean-up drive at the riverbanks of Maris reservoir on February 2, 2023, to commemorate World Wetlands Day. This year’s celebration carries the theme of “It’s Time for Wetlands Restoration,” which emphasizes the need to prioritize and promote actions to reverse its loss. During the activity, CENRO Edmund Malupeng emphasized the importance of stakeholders’ collaborative efforts in order to achieve this goal. Planting trees contributes to the restoration of wetlands by reversing the rapid destruction of wetlands caused by human activity and climate change. An important part of SNAP’s mission is to keep its host communities and the environment clean and safe for a more sustainable future. World Wetlands Day, which is celebrated annually on February 2, seeks to raise awareness around the world about the importance of wetlands in the preservation of the planet.
